Yes, most of our customers will still pay a vastly reduced Electricity Bill to their utility in addition to their monthly loan payment to GoodLeap. Typically, homeowners consume more electricity than the solar system generates, therefore, you will still owe your utility for that excess consumption and potentially for interconnection charges. However, if the solar system generates more electricity than you use, you may be eligible for credits from your utility provider.

The Federal Residential Solar Tax Credit, also known as the Investment Tax Credit (ITC) or Residential Clean Energy Credit (RTC), allowed eligible homeowners to claim 30% of the cost of a solar system as a dollar-for-dollar reduction on federal income taxes owed. However, under the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB), which passed in July 2025, this credit ended on December 31, 2025. You may still be eligible to claim the tax credit if your system was installed and operational on or before December 31, 2025, and you meet all eligibility requirements. If your system was installed after this date, the federal residential solar tax credit is no longer available under current law.

To have qualified, you needed to:

• • Own your home

• • Own your solar system (loans qualify; leases and power purchase agreements do not)

• • Owe enough in federal taxes to use the tax credit

Eligibility ultimately depends on your individual tax situation. For guidance, consult a licensed tax professional. If you are eligible to claim the Federal Solar Tax Credit, you will need your solar contract and IRS Form 5695. Your solar contract can be found through the GoodLeap Home app or at home.goodleap.com/signup. IRS Form 5695 can be found on the IRS website.

The ITC is a federal tax credit, not a rebate. Tax credits offset the balance of tax due to the government. Therefore, you must owe taxes to be able to benefit from the tax credit. Please note, people who do not pay federal taxes may not be able to take full benefit of the tax credit. This includes the following, if they do not have other sources of income:

• • Borrowers on fixed income

• • Borrowers that are retired

• • Borrowers that worked only part of the year

If a borrower does pay enough in federal taxes the year they finance (or purchase) a solar system, the credit can be applied to pay off the taxes due. Borrowers can claim the tax credit over multiple tax cycles if they don't have the full tax liability in year 1. If the borrower already paid all their taxes by withholding them from their paycheck, the federal government will apply issue a tax refund for the delta.

Some solar loan structures were designed to align with the timing of the federal tax credit. Here’s how those typically work:

• • First 18 months: Lower monthly payments to allow time to apply any eligible tax credit or make additional payments toward your loan

• • After month 18: The loan re-amortizes, and your monthly payment adjusts based on how much has been paid down

Your payment after month 18 will vary:

• • If you’ve paid down a larger portion of the loan: Your monthly payment may stay the same or decrease

• • If you’ve paid down less: Your monthly payment may increase

Even without the federal tax credit, you can still make additional payments during the first 18 months to reduce your balance and help manage future payments.
